Narantsetseg was born and raised in the vast Mongolian grassland, where singing is life. As nomads, the Mongols sing to camels and sheep to call them to milk their babies. They sing to appreciate the beautiful sky, mountains, and rivers. They sing to worship their God (Tengri) and thank their ancestor Genghis Khan for giving them brave genes and artistic minds. The nomadic lifestyle makes every Mongol a natural singer with an extremely broad vocal range.
Narantsetseg began her classical voice training in 2013. She has studied Voice Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music with Mark Lee. Before attending NEC, she studied opera singing with leading voice professionals including Elizabeth Werres at Universität der Kunst in Berlin, Germany, and Mark Daboll at the University of Toronto, Canada.
Her teacher Mark Daboll praises Narantsetseg as “a capable and musical singer, possessing a rich, textured, chiaroscuro-balanced mezzo of developing ease, flexibility, and agility.” She is specialized in integrating ethnomusicological elements in classical voice performance.
